ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Purpose
of Award

The
Academic Achievement Award encourages academic excellence by recognizing
contributions made by students and academicians in the field of public
water supply.
Eligibility
All
Masters theses and doctoral dissertations that are relevant to the water
supply industry are eligible. Manuscripts must reflect the work of a
single author and be submitted during the competition year in which the
manuscript is submitted for degree.
The competition is open to students majoring in any subject,
provided the work is directly related to the drinking water supply
industry.

AMBASSADOR AWARD
|
|
AMERICAN WATER LANDMARKS
This award recognizes the
preservation of an American, Canadian, or Mexican Water Landmark at
least 50 years old which has had a direct and significant relationship
with water supply, treatment, distribution, or technological
development. The landmark should be of a permanent and nonexpendable
nature, be recognized within its own community or region as a popular,
valued, or historically significant property, and has been and will be
maintained in a manner appropriate of landmark status. Contact the
ISAWWA Awards Committee Chair for a description of the nomination
procedure and documentation requirements. |

BEST PAPER AWARD

DIAMOND PIN CLUB MEMBERS
|
|
HEROISM AWARD
This award constitutes
official recognition of an act of heroism on the part of an employee or
employees in the water utility industry wherein the rescuer must have
placed himself/herself at great personal risk while aiding some other
person or persons. The rescue can be either on or off the job but must
have been performed within the past 12 months and have involved saving
another person or persons lives with the risk of extreme injury or the
loss of his/her life in the process. AWWA membership is not a
requirement for eligibility. Contact the ISAWWA Awards Committee Chair
for an entry form. |
GOLD WATER DROP (50 Years of
Membership)
Presented to members who have been a part of the
American Water Works Association for Fifty Years. Along with a
certificate of recognition, a special lapel pin is also given to these
awardees so that other members can easily recognize their service.

|
DIVEN MEDAL (Medal of Outstanding Service)
|
|
EDUCATION AWARD
The AWWA Education Awards are
presented to recognize students 19 years old or younger at the
elementary, junior high, high school, or technical school level who have
created a water related project of superior quality and to commemorate
the exceptionally outstanding efforts of the late AWWA Past-President
John H. Stacha to bring water education and water educational materials
and information to the youth of the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Any student is eligible for the award who completes a water project of
high standard that is displayed at a national, provincial, state or
local science fair. The project must be related to water, be done by a
student or students without any external assistance, and conform to the
rules and regulations set down by the science fair organizers.
Nomination letters must be received by an AWWA member, AWWA section, or
AWWA headquarters 45 days prior to the opening date of the science fair
where it will be displayed. Contact the Illinois Section Awards
Committee Chair for more details on nomination procedures. |

GIMMICKS & GADGETS AWARD
An entry should be a novel and
relatively simple mechanical device or procedure designed to provide a
more efficient, safer, and/or simplified means of performing routine
tasks or functions in the maintenance, operation, or construction of a
water utility system. Entries are mailed directly to the Editor of
OpFlow and typically consist of a photo or drawing and a written
description. After passing a screening by AWWA, entries are approved for
inclusion in the annual competition at the National Conference and for
possible publication. The nomination deadline is April 1. First, second,
and third prizes receive cash awards. Contact the Illinois Section AWWA

GOODELL PRIZE (Publications Award)
|
|
HONORARY MEMBERS
AWWA rewards those who have contributed to the
organization when their efforts demonstrate "service above and
beyond the call of duty". These members have distinguished
themselves by their knowledge and accomplishments in the field of water
supply, and who merit special recognition. One means of
recognition is the awarding of honorary membership - honorary members
are those who AWWA wants to be sure to "keep on the hook" -
members whose past and future efforts merit special
recognition. |

LARS SCHOLARSHIP (Larson Aquatic Research Support)
The Larson Aquatic Research Support scholarship
provides support for doctoral and Masters students interested in careers
in the fields of corrosion control, treatment and distribution of
domestic and industrial water supplies, aquatic chemistry, and/or
environmental chemistry.
Support - Masters - $5,000 one-time grant
Support - Doctoral - $7,000 one-time grant
Deadline: January 15 Annually

The George Warren Fuller
Award can be presented annually on recommendation of the Section, to a
member of AWWA for his/her "distinguished service to the water
supply field and in commemoration of sound engineering skills, brilliant
diplomatic talent, and constructive leadership which characterize the
life of George Warren Fuller." |

CLIFFORD H. FORE AWARD
The Clifford H. Fore Award is a special
recognition of waterworks personnel who maintain ongoing devotion to the
industry, and is presented whenever a waterworks person is found to meet
the criteria of the award. This award is presented to those
individuals who quietly and consistently commit their time and efforts
to further the water supply profession in Illinois. This award
commemorates the spirit and devotion of Clifford H. Fore to the water
supplies of Illinois. Cliff was a dedicated water supply
professional who was always available to lend a helping hand, construct
a "make-do" tool or piece of equipment from old motors, sewing
machines or other available material and who was always willing to take
the time to become personnally involved in trouble-shooting and training
efforts. |

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
ISAWWA strives to create working relationships
with other organizations to promote our industry. In 2000 the
Board has elected to honor an individual who's support has proven
invaluable on numerous occasions in his/her role. |

THURSTON E. LARSON AWARD (Best Paper Award)
This award is given to the speaker(s) who presented the best paper
at the Annual Conference the previous year. It is selected on the
content, timeliness, delivery, handouts, visual aids and audience
questions and response to each presentation. The award is named after
the Dr. Thurston (Lars) Larson, Assistant Chief Emeritus of the Illinois
State Water Survey, who was an active member of the Section for
many years, who promoted water supply knowledge and education throughout
his professional career, and who encouraged those who entered the water
supply field to excel in performance and contribute professional
expertise to the industry. |

/ILLINOIS ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY
QUARTER CENTURY SERVICE AWARD
This award is presented to those who serve the
water supply industry in any capacity for 25 years or more. This award
was created to recognize that all facets of water supply operation -
secretarial staff, budget personnel, electricians, plumbers, pipefitters,
operators, laboratory staff, maintenance personnel, management and
regulatory personnel each play an important role in providing
dependable, adequate quantities or safe drinking water to water consumes
each day of the year. |

100 YEAR CLUB
This award is presented to those public water
supplies which have served Illinois water consumers for 100 years.
Illinois State Water Survey records are used as a basis for determining
award. These supplies often began as private water companies in
the 1800's and became municipally owned or investor owned as the
community served grew in size and incorporated.
