                            CHAIR THE TECHNICAL PROGRAM COMMITTEE

1.         Introduction  

1.1       Committee selection

 The Vice Chair chairs the Technical Program Committee.  The committee chair will form a Technical Program committee comprised of members that have distinct interest in the Section and have some background and interest in the Section and AWWA.  A committee of 4 to 12 members is generally satisfactory.  Section members at large are considered desirable to offer fresh perspectives on technical program needs priorities.  The committee chair will discuss possible committee member candidates with the Chair Elect.

1.2       Purpose of the Committee
To develop and coordinate the technical program for the annual meeting of the Section. 

 2.         Committee Tasks

2.1       Committee Plan

 The committee chair shall develop a plan of action to develop and coordinate the technical program.  This plan should be reviewed at the first committee meeting and changes made as appropriate. 

2.2       Committee Meetings
The first committee meeting should be held within 45 days following the Annual Meeting.  Subsequent committee meetings shall be as required.

2.3       Technical Program

The committee should review the previous technical program to assure that new topics and new speakers are incorporated into the program.  The committee should review the structure of previous programs and evaluate whether revisions are desirable or needed.  Any desired changes in the structure of the program must be coordinated and approved by the Chair Elect.  (Changes impact the contractual arrangements with the hotel.)   A tentative structure for the technical program must be coordinated with the Chair Elect and presented to the Board as early as possible (July Board meeting) for discussion and endorsement.

2.4       Committee Members

The committee members should be given explicit and specific assignments to arrange for speakers/topics as outlined in the tentative program structure.    Frequent updates of the program as it is developed must be sent to all committee members and the Chair Elect. 

3.         Technical Program Committee Chair responsibilities
3.1       Committee Activities

The committee chair will direct and coordinate the activities of the committee members. 

 3.2       Committee Budget

 The committee chair shall accomplish committee activities within the Section budget allocation.  Excursions beyond the budget allocation must be approved by the Section's Board of Trustees.
